“We've really spruced up this
street—cleaned it, painted it, added
artwork—and we have plans to keep
going, like planting small saplings. We'll
keep cleaning like this. All the people
here work together, and we have very
good relationships with one another.”
~Mithu Debnath, Housewife, Nagaon, Assam
“I volunteered for an organisation
called the Ugly Indian, which operates
quietly, anonymously, and is very much
part of the Swachh Bharat Mission. In
fact, there is a TED talk about the Ugly
Indian that came out in 2014, which
the Honourable Prime Minister tweeted
about. So it's a very well-known
organisation, which has one motto,
‘Kaam chalu, muh band’. Just go out
and do it. So I said, let me try and solve
the problem of one sofa, starting from
the road, pick up a sofa and see what
I can do with it. And I went around and
spoke to people in the garbage system.”

“...Governance, transparency,
technology, and testing is what we have
brought into this so-called space of
landfill mining. Now, what we do is when
we start the process, we understand the
whole environment of the place where
we are doing. For example, we have
done projects in Guwahati, we have
done projects in Vadodara, we have
done projects in Noida and now we are
doing projects in Chennai. So, we have
covered almost everywhere, every place has a different topography,
environment, and geography. So, the machines that we design are
actually customised to handle this. ”
