River (YMCR) have transformed
the traditional greeting of ‘Jai
Hind’ into a motivational tool for
social service. What began as
a local effort in Itanagar in 2016
has expanded into a multi-city
mission covering regions like
Naharlagun, Seppa, and Palin.
The challenges in this
mountainous terrain are
significant. Rivers in the ICR
(Itanagar Capital Region) were
heavily polluted with domestic,
medical, and plastic waste.
Volunteers often work in "mission
mode," manually carrying heavy
trash bags through difficult
terrain to treatment plants.
Despite logistical hurdles such as
transporting waste 20 kilometers
away to dump sites or the lack
of government machinery—
this youth-led initiative has
successfully removed over 11 lakh
kilograms of garbage. Their work
emphasizes that keeping the
"land of rivers and mountains"
