"When we heard news from other states
about people having to buy seeds from
shops due to the complete loss of their
traditional varieties, we realised the risk
of losing our own seeds. Before such
a situation could arise, we took the
initiative to collect and conserve them."
"Indigenous seeds are naturally
adapted to local conditions and are
more resilient to environmental stress.
Traditional maize seeds last longer, are
tastier, and have a good aroma. Commercial
maize typically lasts only 2–3 months, as it is
often damaged by maize worms.”

On how the bank sustains itself:
"We followed a “borrow and return” system…If a farmer
takes 100g of paddy, he or she returns double — 200g —
selecting the best quality and mature seeds. This borrow
and return system benefits both the farmer and the Seed
Bank."
