On 1 March 2026, the banks of the
Ganga in Varanasi made history. In
a single hour, 2,51,000 saplings were
planted across 350 bighas of land
— breaking China's previous world
record and earning a mention from
the Prime Minister in ‘Mann ki Baat’.

Here, in their own words, are the
people who made it happen.

“CRPF, Municipal Corporation,
Police Department, local bodies,
tree lovers, environment-
loving organisations, people
of the village and students
— we planted on the
theme of 'Ek Ped Maa Ke
Naam' and a world record
was made by planting 2
lakh 51 thousand saplings
within 60 minutes. This was
also mentioned by the Hon'ble
Prime Minister in ‘Mann ki Baat’.”
