From Kashi to Fiji
India's cultural strength lies in its profound diversity, and its unity is
beautifully demonstrated when its parts actively celebrate one another.
A powerful example of this is the contemporary revival of interest in
the Tamil language, driven by parallel initiatives on the global stage
and within the country's heartland. From the Pacific islands of Fiji to
the ancient city of Kashi (Varanasi), children are embracing Tamil,
weaving a stronger fabric of cultural bonds and national unity.
On the international front, the diaspora community in Fiji is
reconnecting with its linguistic roots. As highlighted by Prime Minister
Narendra Modi in 129th ‘Mann ki Baat’ address, commendable efforts
are underway to connect Fiji's new generation with the Tamil language,
a vital part of their heritage. The celebration of the first 'Tamil Day' at
a school in Raki-Raki marked a significant milestone. On this platform,
children recited poems and gave speeches in Tamil, openly expressing
