A decade ago, India
was producing about
70,000 to 75,000 metric
tons of honey annually,
today this figure has risen
to approximately 1.25 lakh
metric tons, charting a growth
of nearly 60%, making it one
of the world’s leading honey
producing countries. Behind
this growth is a focused policy
ecosystem, market incentives,
and rising global demand for
natural and organic products.
Another major driving force
has been National Beekeeping and
Honey Mission (NBHM), launched
in 2020 under the Atma Nirbhar
Bharat Abhiyan. The mission has
aimed at modernising India’s
beekeeping sector by improving
training, infrastructure, and direct
market access. Thousands of
beekeepers were brought into the
