Every Drop Counts

Stories of People-Led Water Conservation across India

To deal with the challenge of water scarcity in the water-stressed
regions of the country, in 2019, the Ministry of Jal Shakti launched
Jal Shakti Abhiyan(JSA). In 2021, Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain
(JSA:CTR) with the tagline “Catch the Rain – Where it Falls When it
Falls” was launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
The 2025-theme for JSA:CTR was “Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari(JSJB):
Jan Jagrukta Ki Or” with Jan Bhagidari (People’s participation) at
its core. Back in 2022, Mission Amrit Sarovar was also launched with
an aim to construct and rejuvenate 75 water bodies in each district
across the country, thus promoting water conservation, strengthening
sustainability, and rejuvenating traditional community water bodies
through collective public participation. As a result, over 68000 Amrit
Sarovars have been created across the country. What makes these
programmes impactful is the way they are being adapted locally.
