The New Strength of Navy
INS Dunagiri
This is a powerful ‘stealth guided-
missile frigate’ built under ‘Project 17A.’
The warship is specifically designed to
evade radar detection, making it difficult
to locate. INS Dunagiri is fully equipped
with state-of-the-art sensors and
advanced weaponry, including surface-
to-surface ‘BrahMos’ missiles and a
‘Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missile’
system.
INS Sanshodhak
Unlike other warships, its primary
function is the precise mapping of the
seabed. It has been specially designed
for ‘hydrographic surveys’ in both coastal
and deep waters. The vessel collects
data that facilitates safe navigation and
supports naval operations. To conduct
surveys at extreme depths (beyond the
reach of divers), it carries unmanned
machines such as ‘Autonomous
Underwater Vehicles’ and ‘Remotely
Operated Vehicles’.
INS Agray
This vessel is primarily designed to hunt
enemy submarines operating near
India's coastline. It is an ‘Anti-Submarine
Warfare Shallow Watercraft’ capable
of detecting, tracking, and neutralising
underwater threats in coastal waters. It
is equipped with lightweight torpedoes,
indigenous rocket launchers, and
shallow-water sonar systems. Instead
of conventional propellers, it utilises a
‘water-jet propulsion system,’ which
reduces underwater noise and provides
a significant advantage during anti-
submarine operations.
