Yojana: Brightening Lives

As beautiful as the lush green valleys of Manipur are, life in its
remote regions is equally full of challenges. In many villages, nestled
among the hills, where the sun rises first, it was ironic that darkness
would descend as soon as the evening fell. The lack of electricity not
only kept homes in darkness, but also had a deep impact on health
and livelihoods. But as the saying goes, it is better to light a lamp than
to curse the darkness. Manipur’s young innovator Moirangthem Seth
did exactly that.
Instead of waiting for grid-based electricity, Moirangthem Seth
chose to harness the power of sunlight itself. Today, through his efforts
along with those of the government, a new revolution is taking shape
in the remote regions of Manipur.
Search for a Local Solution
Moirangthem Seth belongs to the generation that grew up
witnessing severe electricity shortages. For him, solar energy was
not just a technology, it was a necessity. When asked about the
