WHAT
The National Cadet
Corps (NCC) is the
youth wing of the
Indian Armed Forces
with its headquarters
in New Delhi, India.
WHEN
The NCC in India was
formed in 1948. The
first Prime Minister
of India, Pandit
Jawaharlal Nehru
presided over the
function of raising the
first NCC Unit in Delhi
on the last Sunday of
November 1948. This
day is traditionally
celebrated as the
'NCC Day'.
The need for having a motto for the Corps was
discussed in the 11th Central Advisory Committee
(CAC) meeting held on August 11, 1978. The mottos
WHY suggested were ‘Duty and Discipline’, ‘Duty,
Unity and Discipline’, ‘Duty and Unity’, ‘Unity and
Discipline’. The final decision for selection of ‘Unity
and Discipline’ as motto for the NCC was taken in
the 12th CAC meeting held on October 12, 1980.
The NCC is a responsive, learning and continuously
HOW evolving organisation. Its activity is guided by
certain core values that they endeavour to instill
among all ranks of the NCC.
