WHAT

          The National Cadet
          Corps (NCC) is the
          youth wing of the
          Indian Armed Forces
          with its headquarters
          in New Delhi, India.

            WHEN

           The NCC in India was
          formed in 1948. The
          first Prime Minister
          of India, Pandit
          Jawaharlal Nehru
          presided over the
          function of raising the
          first NCC Unit in Delhi
          on the last Sunday of
          November 1948. This
          day is traditionally
          celebrated as the
          'NCC Day'.
The need for having a motto for the Corps was
discussed in the 11th Central Advisory Committee
(CAC) meeting held on August 11, 1978. The mottos
WHY suggested were ‘Duty and Discipline’, ‘Duty,
Unity and Discipline’, ‘Duty and Unity’, ‘Unity and
Discipline’. The final decision for selection of ‘Unity
and Discipline’ as motto for the NCC was taken in
the 12th CAC meeting held on October 12, 1980.

The NCC is a responsive, learning and continuously
HOW evolving organisation. Its activity is guided by
certain core values that they endeavour to instill
among all ranks of the NCC.
