Buddhist philosophy to medicine and science, but protecting these from
the harsh forces of nature has long been a major challenge.
Assistant Professor Stanzin Mingur from the Central Institute of
Buddhist Studies explains this challenge:
“In the Ladakh region, most houses have mud roofs, due to which
these ancient documents are gradually getting damaged by rain and
moisture. In such a situation, an initiative like ‘Gyan
Bharatam’ is proving to be extremely important
for the digitisation and preservation of these
valuable heritage materials.”
Deputy Secretary Tsewang Paljor of
the Art, Culture and Language Academy
spoke about its long-term impact:
“These manuscripts contain valuable
knowledge on a wide range of subjects.
Through the ‘Gyan Bharatam’ initiative,
these priceless treasures will be preserved
in digital form, ensuring that this historical
knowledge remains safe and continues to be
passed down from generation to generation.”
