Crafted Fibers

        Tradition Combined with Modernity
Crafted Fibres, pioneered by Dr Chewang Norbu Bhutia, is a Sikkim-
based initiative that beautifully merges the state’s traditional
weaving heritage with contemporary fashion. Founded with a
deep respect for local craftsmanship, the initiative represents
a remarkable blend of tradition, sustainability, and innovation.

Let’s take a sneak peek into their journey
                       Empowering Local Communities

It has transformed lives by providing sustainable income
opportunities for Sikkim’s artisans, particularly women.
Through skill development and market access, the initiative
has boosted financial independence, preserved traditional
                     techniques, and fostered community pride.
“The success of local artisans fosters a sense of pride and
cultural identity, inspiring younger generations to continue
traditional crafts, thus preserving our rich cultural heritage.”

                            The Choice of Natural Fibres

Using natural fibers allowed him to honor the ancient practices of Sikkimese
weaving and craftsmanship, which have been passed down through
        generations.
“Wool, in particular, has been an integral part of the region’s traditional
livelihood, as it is sourced locally from hardy yak and sheep breeds well-
        adapted to the Himalayan climate…”
“Wool’s warmth and durability symbolize resilience and the harmony between
the people and their rugged mountain landscape. Moreover, natural fibers like
silk, hemp, and organic cotton reflect Sikkim’s commitment to sustainability
        and eco-conscious living.“
