Stories Driving India’s Sporting Transformation

Supporting this transformation at the grassroots is the ASMITA
(Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women Through Action)
Athletics League, a nationwide initiative to promote women’s
participation in sports. So far, nearly 3 lakh women have participated
across over 2,600 leagues in 33 disciplines. On 8th March (International
Women’s Day), events were organised across 250 locations nationwide,
with nearly 2 lakh girls participating in track events such as 100m,
200m, and 400m races across age categories under-13, 13–18, and 18-
plus.
