took off," she says.
The group, initially made up
of children of faculty members
and students, soon grew as
several others in the Institute
community came forth. Some
came for the love of music, others
came because of curiosity. A few
found the challenge of picking up
a new skill intriguing and several
more joined because this was
an opportunity that they had
always been looking for. A certain
percentage also came to find
a community for themselves. In
a high-stakes environment like
the IISc campus, GEETANJALI IISc
offered a chance to disconnect
from work.
By 2015, the group had grown
substantially and became an
established club, one that also
started providing students an
opportunity to perform on stage.
Although, primarily focussed on
Hindustani classical music, the
group also explores folk songs,
semi-classical songs, regional
music, and even Western music
from time to time.
Now, the group works in
